Hindu Festival Makara Sankranti(Pongal) Introduction:
Makara Sankranti is harvest festival of
Indian. This
festival specailly
celebrated by south Indian people. In Andhrapradesh
Hindus celebrate this festival three days. First day is Bhogi, second day Makara Sankranti and the third day is Kanuma.
The second day Makara Sankranti is main festival Makara Sankrati is the day when the glorious sun God begins its ascending and entry into the Northern Hemishere.
Every year this festival comes on 14th January as
English Calender.
The sun entry from sagittarious to Capricon that day is Makara Sankranti. In
Telugu the Capricon is Makaram. So this day is called as Makara Sankranti.
Sankranti means a great light. In one day very holistic enrgefic time is early
morning. As per puranas the month
Dhanurmasam is early moring hours of Gods. So
Hindus wake up earlyin Dhanurmasam (A month) and make variety designs with rice
flour or granite powder and colours. On their thrsholds. If is the one way of
welcome the gods into the morning. And when Dhanurmasam ends the sun enters into
Capricon (Makaram). That day call as Makara Sankranti.
Hindus believes that in
these days the heaven doors are always open. And who died on these days they
goes directly to heaven. In Mahabharata the Bishma waited for these days on
ampasayya(the bed of arrows). The
vamana send the bali into the patala
(Underground) with his Foot on this day. So this is a fervour greatest festival
of Hindus.
How to celebrate Makara Sankranti(Pongal):
Sankranti is celebrate threee days First day is 13th January called Bhogi. On this day
goddess Godadevi married Lord Vishnu. Their happiest married life is called
Bhogi.
On the day of Bhogi people wake up in the early moring and take all waste matiral. Waste paper an dfire it. This is called Ghogi mantalu waste matirial sings the
poverty. They fire the waste matirial and boil water with athat and use to bath. Hindus believes that if they follow this formatity they don’t bother with poverty. After this they take
Nine types of grains Navadhanyalu put a small pot in the middle. Of thiese navadhanyalu by heating they pour the milk.
They pour
Bhogi Pallu on children head.
The second day is Makara Sankranti. On this day we can see all the thresholds with full of designs. Known as
Muggulu. On the middle of Muggu they Pour Navadhanyalu and put
Gobbillu. Haridasu, and Gangireddulu and Jangamayyalu move one home to another home and begs.
In the evening the whole family members enjoy with
kites they fly the kites to welcome the sun into Northern homesphere. Because they cann’t fly, that’s they send a welcome message to son by kites after this they celebrate Mommala Koluvu.
The third day is Kanuma. Sankranti is a harvest festival. The farmes cultivate the land depends on his cattle and also birds. On these days farmers are very happy because this is season of the cultivate food grains coming home. So it’s the duty
of farmer that he makes his friends also happy. On these food grains the cattle and birds also have right. So on the day of Kanuma farmers worships the cattle.

Hindu people. If there no sun we don’t have our lives. We count our time as per sunrise and sunsets in the world most of the people follows the
