Hindu Festival Ugadi(Telugu New Year) Introduction:
The name of this
Festival Ugadi derived from Yuga adhi. Yuga adhi means the starting day of the world. As the time is going on Yugadhi becomes Ugadi.
Brahma the
God of creation creates new world on this day. This day comes is March or April as English calendar.
How to celebrate Ugadi(Telugu New Year):
People Clean their house and surrounding. They decorate the doors with mango leaves. On this day the wake up at early morning and massage their head and body with sesame oil. After that they have their head bath wear new clothes. They worship the God and eat special recipes of Ugadi in the evening they go to the temple and listen
Panchga Shravanam.
In Telangana (A place in Andhra Pradesh State) the people celebrate this festival threedays. First day is Amavasya (no moon day) on this day. They make a
Pandiri and put the gods statues in that. They make the Gouridevi Statue with turmeric powder and put that turmeric statue on beetle leaf (see the photos section)
and put
Arecanut as Ganesha. They worship the gods with
Gogupulu. They tied Kankans on the wrist. They offering wome special puddings
padi and polelu to Gods. They make
Doppalu with Banyan leaves and put some wheat grains in that. They at namaskara to God and take some grains and count their grains. If they have even number of grains they believe that the whole year will be good for them of they have add number of grains they believe that the whole year will be bad. After this all family members drink Ugadi Pachadi in
Doppalu.
In the eveing they listen
Panchangam by priests or experts. Priests tell how will be that year goes on.
In some villeges they conduct race of Oxvechicles.
